Ring in the new year
Happy 2018! Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? Right now, you’re probably focused on getting your inventory done – but set aside some time this week to make a plan to get the most out of your system this year.
Check your backups: We say it a lot, but it bears repeating – back up your system daily. Use Ascend’s automated backup feature to schedule your backups to a “cloud” drive. Get more information on this feature in a previous post.
Be secure: Scammers and hackers don’t take holidays, so make sure you’re protected year-round. Keep your anti-virus and anti-malware software current, run all your Windows updates, and be careful about what you’re clicking. Use your tools: Keep yourself safeguarded from credit card fraud by using the protection built into your Ingenico iSC250 device – process all credit and debit cards only through this device. Don’t process any payments manually, no matter how good the sale sounds. Learn more about preventing fraud in a previous post.
Set a schedule: Keep your inventory on track for the year by setting up a cycle count schedule. We recommend setting a five-week schedule, but anything is better than nothing – at least count your highest dollar and quickest turnover categories regularly. Check out our Ascend University modules or our knowledge base articles.
Audit your gear: Are you keeping your equipment up-to-date? Electronics tend to have a three to five year lifespan – are your computers and/or peripherals getting geriatric? Check our minimum hardware requirements to see if you’re running the most recent version of your printers or scanners.
New year, new website: You may have noticed that we rolled out a new version of our website over the holidays. Search the entire site, or within individual pages. Files and training resources are separated out to make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for. Quickly jump to a category, type of link, or vendor.
Unfortunately, there have been a few hiccups. We’ve gotten most of these issues ironed out now, but there may still be some files that got corrupted. We’re combing through all of these to find the problems, but in the meantime, please reach out to the support team to let us know which files they are.
